Dénes Dosztán

Dénes Dosztán Dénes Dosztán was born on July 17, 1984 in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia. He spent his childhood with Hungarians and Serbians around him, but his nationality is Hungarian.

Dénes has been a classical violinist since 1992, ragtime & stride pianist since 2000, and used to play Hungarian folk music on the fiddle for four years. From 1999 to 2003 he studied at the Kodály School in Kecskemét, Hungary, where he took lessons from the violin teacher and good friend Tamás Ittzés. With the Kodály School Dénes visited Switzerland and England twice, as a chamber musician, orchestra member and a violin soloist also. He's currently studying classical violin at the Conservatory of Debrecen. Debrecen is a nice Hungarian town, located in the Eastern part of Hungary.

Dénes started to play the piano at the age of 15. A year later he turned his interest towards playing ragtime & stride and became a self-taught pianist. He fell in love with ragtime when he heard Tamás Ittzés play his own ragtime compositions. Since then he has learned to play almost all of his teacher's solo pieces.

In 2002 Dénes played violin together with the Hungarian Bohém Ragtime Jazzband and the American ragtime and jazz pianist & clarinetist Butch Thompson at the International Bohém Ragtime & Jazz Festival, the most famous traditional jazz festival in Hungary. In August the same year he spent a few days in Paris, where he played piano with Benjamin Intartaglia at the Italian restaurant El Cardinale, which is located in the center of the city. He has also been one of the performers at the Bohém Ragtime & Jazz Festival (in Kecskemét, Hungary) in 2003 and 2005, where he played solo piano.

Besides his performing career Dénes also collects ragtime and stride solo recordings, sheet music and archive video recordings of the greatest classical violin players of the 20th century.
